Liqum Paper Ltd turned 10 years

1.4.2009
Protacon Engineering Ltd’s subsidiary is celebrating its 10 years and Liqum’s business idea based on liquid quality measurement has grown into a globally patented and marketed product.

In 1999 the company, originally founded by the name of Liqum Ltd, developed a generic technology to measure liquid quality changes based on electro-chemistry. In its founding year Liqum’s founder, Mr. Sakari Laitinen, won the first prize in Jyväskylä Science Park's Business Idea '99 competition – amounting to some 170 000 Euros. In 2007 Outotec acquired the business operation rights to the extractive industry and Protacon Group acquired a majority holding of Liqum Paper Ltd, focusing on pulp and paper industry. Since the beginning Protacon has been involved in developing the Chena technology. Chena is an excellent example of Protacon’s vast expertise in programming as well as in measurement and information systems. Now Protacon and Liqum exploit the technology in close operation for example with ABB in pulp and paper industry.

“The original idea of a world-wide water quality monitoring network is getting closer to its fulfillment and the next target is the energy industry”, tells the energetic father of the business idea, Sakari Laitinen, about the future of Liqum. As water quality expert Liqum has been founding the world-wide H2oAlliance and it is an active partner in the United Nation’s The CEO Water Mandate.
