ABB aims to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness with Liqum technology
7.7.2008
ABB Oy Service acquired Liqum Paper’s Chena real-time electro-chemistry measurement systems to Myllykoski Paper’s mill in Anjalankoski, Finland. Liqum Paper Ltd belongs to Protacon Group.
ABB Oy Service and Myllykoski Paper started long term (five years) Full Service Contract on 1.1.2007. ABB Oy Service is responsible for developing Overall Production Effectiveness and Maintenance Operations at Myllykoski. Liqum has the only existing electro-chemical measurement technology in the world that also meets the needs in ABB Overall Production Concept.
Liqum’s worldwide-patented technology enables real-time monitoring of production processes including liquids. The system incorporates the professional expertise of the plant, process measurements and new data received from the process chemistry. The information is refined by data processing into an easily understandable visual format.
”The aim of ABB Oy Service’s and Liqum Paper’s technology partnership is to make Myllykoski into a worldwide reference in improving paper production line’s overall effectiveness,” tells ABB Oy Service’s Myllykoski Site Manager Jari Ala-Nikkola. ”We are branding the use of electro-chemistry in paper making as a part of ABB’s OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) concept”, adds Mister Ala-Nikkola. ABB is responsible for over 150 mills’ overall maintenance operations worldwide and people from ABB’s global Corporate Research Centers and Full Service development department in Finland are also involved in this Myllykoski program.
”Electro-chemistry shows phenomena, that can be seen with no other method”, states ABB Oy Service’s Myllykoski Service Manager Lassi Svansjö, who has already previous experience of benefiting Liqum technology in several projects. ”Indices bring all the information onto one display and the history-data-tool facilitates analyzing the trends. With these we are able to tackle the possible process disturbances better and fasters”, clarifies Mister Svansjö.
Liqum has improved process liquid quality in real-time to benefit their customers in several industries as well as in environmental water monitoring since 1999. Liqum Paper Ltd is part of Protacon Group, which employs 160 people.
ABB is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs more than 110,000 people.
